First County Bank’s Maple Sugar Festival Served Up a Sweet Time

The 13th annual First County Bank Maple Sugar Festival Weekend at the Stamford Museum & Nature Center was a big success, drawing more than 3,700 visitors from all over lower Fairfield County throughout the weekend. It was so popular the museum sold out of maple syrup! The Maple Sugar Festival Weekend has become a New England tradition and one of the most anticipated and highly attended events in lower Fairfield County. One of the highlights includes First County Bank’s 4th Annual Chef’s Challenge, where local chefs from David’s Soundview Catering, Bar Rosso, Festivities and EOS competed for the best recipe using maple syrup.

Here’s what they served up: David’s Soundview Catering prepared Butternut and Apple Bisque with maple baked chopped pecans and Maple Glazed Jumbo Shrimp with white cheddar grits; Bar Rosso created Orange Panna Cotta prepared with candied oranges and maple syrup and an Eggplant Relish Crostini with whipped ricotta and maple syrup; Festivities tantalized our sweet tooth with a Maple Infused Warm Chocolate Pudding with a pecan wood smoked bacon grissini to dip into the pudding and for their second dish served a Brie & Maple Scented Cranberry Chutney Quesadilla with a side salad that had Maple Dijon Vinaigrette. Finally EOS treated us to Pulled Duck Sliders that were cooked down delicately with the maple syrup and also served a bright and refreshing salad with mixed greens, oranges, toasted almonds, and a maple syrup vinaigrette. Yum! And the winner was Chef David Cingari of David’s Soundview Catering! Visit OmNomCT for details and pictures of these amazing dishes. Other fun activities included the famous Sunday Pancake Brunch and the yearly tradition of maple sugaring. Check out coverage of the Chef’s Challenge and more in this It’s Relevant segment.
